Marion Pet show helps Scouts

Marion Girl Scout Troop #416 held its kick-off event to mark the beginning of a two-year fundraising campaign to raise money for their trip to London in 2002.

Hosted by Festival in the Park, Aug. 26 and 27, Girl Scouts worked shifts to sell their homemade pet treats and ended the weekend's events with a pet show. Nineteen contestants (pets) and their families participated in the show including a surprise contestant - Betty and her owner, Stan Munro, of Rochester's WOKR channel 13. Betty, a Bearded Dragon Lizard, won first place in the category of strangest. (Stan told Betty she won for being the prettiest.)

Troop Leaders Tracy Cretelle and Tracy Whitney were pleased that Stan could make it, and stated that his attendance added a zing to the event!

The sale and show raised $200 toward the trip. The troop is planning to make the pet show an annual event and treat sales will continue for the next two years. For more information, or if you'd like to purchase treats for your pets, call 483.8213 or 926.1979.
