Back to school for most Newark kids

Principal Chris Mizro & student

Yesterday was the first day of school for most Newark children, including St. Michael School. Construction delays will keep Perkins School's elementary students out until next Monday.

On Tuesday evening, crews were busy on the high school-Kelley School campus, putting in sidewalks and paving roadways.

Temperatures were in the 40's early yesterday morning, but the sun shone brightly and the arrival at schools went smoothly.

This photo was taken around 9 a.m. outside of Kelley School. Principal Chris Mizro is on the right, holding the hand of a pupil as they walked toward the school.

Newark Police Officers were posted at both entrances to the school campus - Peirson Avenue and Wood Lane. The officers helped with traffic flow and advised parents where they might park or drive.
