Fall Canoe trip planned on Ganargua

Organizers of the previous popular canoe event down the historic Ganargua River are planning another fall trip. According to Dom Bartucca of Arcadia, and Palmyra Supervisor Dave Lyon, another trip is scheduled for September 23.

'Wayne County has a wonderful resource in the Garnargua Creek', said Bartucca, 'and (it) makes an outstanding tourist attraction for canoeists and nature lovers alike.'

The Ganargua River carried the first settlers to this area long before the Erie Canal was built and any villages were established. The three-hour journey will start at Swift's Landing in Palmyra and end in Norsen Park in the Town of Arcadia. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Swift's Landing. Bring your canoe and life preservers and the rest will be provided. Arcadia Transportation has generously agreed to supply busing back to your vehicles in Palmyra. The Newark and Port Gibson Fire Departments will again be assisting and available for first aid.

A light picnic lunch at Norsen Park will be available for a small donation to the Fire Department.

Those planning to participate are urged to call Dom Bartucca at 331.4065 or e-mail empire@eznet.net
