Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

My goodness, it's chilly outside today. I've got the windows open. (I guess I thought it was still summery out.) I guess I'm hoping if I don't think about the weather that's coming, it won't.

Ralph Everdyke told me they were having a Pro-Appreciation Day for their pro at Newark Country Club, Tim Phelps, on Saturday, Sept. 23. If the weather was cooperative, they had planned a four-person scramble. All players were bringing a dish to pass for the picnic afterward, but I'm not sure what they managed to squeeze in between the rain showers.

If you'd like to give blood, there's a drive Thursday, September 28 at the Newark Cooperative Extension from noon to 7 p.m. Al Dobbin donated blood on one particular occasion to a woman who once lived in Sodus Point. Carol Anne Sprong Moysey was most grateful and had the opportunity to thank him in person when she was visiting the area. Kidding her, Al said after the donation, she should be able to play the guitar. (Carol can you?)

The Sodus Primary School Open House and Book Fair will also be Thursday, September 28. You won't see Melanie Pike and sky her kids there this year - the kids have jazz band rehearsals and Melanie is taking a course in Newark. I used to love getting to the school early to look at all the books.

Early in November, author Tedd Arnold will be coming to the Sodus Primary School. How exciting! Tedd Arnold has written many books, including one about Huggly the monster. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Williamson Library has an autographed book. (Am I right, Robin?) The students, with their parents' permission, are collecting spare change from home to help pay for Mr. Arnold's visit.

Shawna Pike is on the Girls Varsity Tennis Team. Just before school started, she competed in a tournament, finishing 6th out of 20 in her bracket. Congratulations, Shawna! She injured herself during a practice... feel better soon. (She still keeps busy - she's going for her road test next Tuesday and she'll be working again at the Williamson Animal Hospital three afternoons a week.)

pretty sky More winners names from the Reading Program at Sodus Library are: Sarah Latulipe, Talia Spinelli, Logan Graham, Nicholas Spinelli, Caitlin Gallacher and Stephani Riekstins. Congratulations, everyone.

Thanks so much to those of you who have sent me information. I greatly appreciate it. (I don't hear from Melanie a lot because she is so busy, but when I do, it's a page full!) If you would like to share an event, field trip your kids may be going on, recipe or fun craft idea, write to me at

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
