Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

fall treesmgoodcooke@aol.com

This week, it feels much more like fall. In fact, I have given up on saving my summer flowers and have been placing pumpkins and gourds all around. (I tried with the mums, but I guess the odd warm and cold weather has gotten to them.) The other day, I put some corn cob stalks on the back porch and when Sarah, our Boxer, went outside, the rustling of the leaves scared her. She's not terribly brave.

And speaking of pets, there will be a Rabies Clinic at the Sodus Highway barns next Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Have the leaves begun to change yet in Wayne County? Shawna Pike can now enjoy riding about leave peeping. (They are called 'Leaf Peepers' - right? The people who drive around looking at the leaves?) Shawna passed her Driving Test on Tuesday so now she is safe and official. (Melanie, you'll have to have a car schedule now so everyone will have the chance to use it.)

Happy October birthdays to Janet Clark and Diane Phillips.

The Williamson Senior Citizens will meet Wednesday (Oct. 4), 5:30 p.m. at the Legion Hall. Bring a fish-to-pass, your own table service and drink. Guest speaker will be Williamson Library Director Cheryl Gravelle, who will discuss 'Senior Services at Your Library.'

Next weekend is Sodus Homecoming weekend. Have you visited the school site lately?

There are many fun things going on in Wayne County, many of them Halloween and Fall-related. There will be a Haunted Hayride through Casey Park in Ontario. On Friday, October 13 and Saturday October 14 at 7 p.m. If you have little ones who prefer just to be entertained and have fun, you can visit the park from 6 to 7 p.m. There will be many free fun things to do for everyone. The Hayrides are $5 for adults and $3 for the kids. If you would like more information or to make a reservation, call the Ontario Recreational Dept. at 524.7447. (I've taken many strolls along the path of Casey Park and I can only imagine how scary it can get when the ghost stories start being told and the woods start making ghoulish noises.)

Speaking of Haunted and scary, fun Halloween things to do, the Halloween Haven at Orchard View Country Market on l0006 Ridge Ridge in North Rose has a kid's tent, a Haunted House and train rides on weekends. For more info, call 587.2245.

Long Acre Farms, l342 Eddy Road in Macedon, is having it's Annual Fall Family Fun Fest September 30 through October 29. fall trees There will be Doug's Giant Straw Bale Maze, Pumpkin Land, Courtyard Mazes and weekend hayrides as well as a BBQ, and Halloween crafts. Call 315.986.9821. (Kids are good with mazes - I can get lost standing still.)

The L.W. Emporium is having their Fall Harvest Festival, October 1-31. The Emporium is on Knickerbocker Rd. in Ontario. There's a children's maze, and safe trick or treating. Call 524.8841

Carl's Christmas Tree Farm on Route 88 invites you to come out and explore. There are daily tours and you can tag your tree while the weather is still warm. If you tag your tree early, you'll get a $2 discount. Call 331.2227.

And while you're that close to Fairville, don't forget to stop in at the Apple Shed and pick up some apples, cider and other fresh fruits and vegetables. (It seems like yesterday we were there feeding the baby cow and goats. It's a lot of fun.)

Sunday October 1, the Fall Foliage Train Rides from Sodus to Newark will be going back in time - music from the l940's will fill the cars, as well as events and memories from the era. Adult tickets are $l0; children 3-l5 are $6 and children under 3 can ride free if seated on an adult's lap. To order tickets, call 716.224.0581.

If you have any fun Halloween of fall events and festivals please write to me and let me know at
