Medical careers explored by local seniors

Six Wayne County high school seniors are getting first-hand experience and seeing what it is like to work in a medical field. This is through the BOCES New Visions Medical Careers program operating out of ViaHealth of Wayne, Newark Hospital.

Students are:

  • Angelina Burgin from Red Creek High School,
  • Alicia Landis and Luke Inglese from Wayne Central School,
  • Clarice Mourey of Newark High School,
  • Shannon Murphy from Sodus High School, and
  • Karen Scrivener from Lyons High School.

The program is designed for high school seniors interested in the health care field. The students spend a portion of each school day during the year-long program rotating through different departments and working directly with health care professionals to see first-hand the many career opportunities available in the field.

Upon successful completion of the program, students receive four credits, one each for English, Economics, Government and Health Sciences.

The BOCES New Visions Medical Careers program has been active in Wayne County for six years and 83 local students have completed the program. High school juniors interested in considering the program for their senior year should talk with their guidance counselors.
