Car safety seat inspection in Newark
The child passenger safety program allows certified child passenger safety technicians to inspect car seats to determine if a child is safe in its current car seat. Technicians check to see if seats have been damaged, recalled or expired and if seats are appropriate for the child's weight and age. Parents and care givers are also taught how to correctly install their seat into their vehicle. If the technician determines that a car seat is unsafe or inappropriate for that child, the seat is replaced. Funding for this program is made possible through the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee as well as donations from individuals and local civic organizations. Currently the Wayne County Sheriffs Office has two certified technicians, Deputies William Benedict and Rick Halvorsen; and Lisa Roth is the technician for Public Health. The next car seat inspection event will be held Thursday, April 5 at the Newark Fire Department from 5 -7 p.m. In order to have your child's seat inspected you must bring your child, his/her car seat and the vehicle the child is transported in. If you would like more information about the child passenger safety program or if you would like to make an appointment to have your child's seat inspected at the fitting stations please call Debby Jayne at the Sheriff's Office at 946.5785; or Lisa Roth at Public Health at 946.5749.
