Lyons Heritage society to meet

learn more!The Lyons Heritage Society will meet Monday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hotchkiss building on Water Street, Lyons. There will be a brief business meeting followed by the program.

Richard Kelley, the new President of the Lyons Heritage Society, will show a video titled Historic J. E. Crosby Mint Still. This is the first in a series of three videos. The video shows mint growing, being harvested, the equipment used, and the selling of the essence. The Crosby family descendants are still producing peppermint and spearmint at this restored mint site. The public is invited to see the video.

Dr. Ephraim K. Smith, who has produced the video, has visited Lyons twice and some of the filming was done in Lyons. Anne D. Hotchkiss, former President of the Hotchkiss Essential Oil Company appears on the video. Dr. Smith is professor of history at California State University at Fresno. He spent several years researching mint and mint stills.
