WOLCOTT - Long hair, retrocostumes, peace signs, bright colors, and
60's-ish music filled the stage at the H. James McGinn Auditorium on

presented its annual musical: Groovy! Travis (Dan Nau / Jon Bentley), Muriel (Aubrey Pentycofe), Tony (Brian
Smith), Swashbuckler (Chad Countryman) and Alice (Jessica Kellogg), were
excited to organize a concert, "Music Beads and Flowers" for the local hippies and flower
children (Paige Humbert, Heidi Reynolds, Dee Guinup, Sarah Grice, Jaimie
Scheid, Jennifer Lehr, Sam Hance, Jamie Goossen, Todd Smith, Tyler
Interlichia, Trevor Conners, Jared Sherwin, Jon Conrow and Nathan
Webber) on Elmer (Dylan Frey) Crumb's apple farm,. With the help of the Sheriff (Ron Parisi), Mrs. Porter (Amanda Bates)
hopes to "stop the music." The concert promoters struggle to
keep the popular, singing group The Lemon Bugs (Jon Bentley/ Dan Nau,
Craig Packard and Marisa Santillo) on the program. Add to the scene such
characters as a nurse (Chelsea Palmer), fashion designer Mary Quaint (Krysten
Hipp), photographer (Sara Burgess), an animal lover (Jessica Garno), the
local reporter (Shasta Taft), two "land surfers" (Josh Dobbin
and Myrrah Dubey), recording agents (Mackenzie Stuck and Ryan Wunder)
and a mother (Aireal Fisher) seeking her runaway children. This musical featured student musicians Almanda
Bentley (saxophone), Jon Richwalder and Jason Canne (trumpet), Jacob
Ellis (trombone), Casey Youngman (keyboard), Victoria Bell (percussion),
and flute (Dee Guinup). An additional musician, Brad Cartwright, added harmonica.
The show was the cooperative team efforts of many Middle School Staff. Music teacher Fred Dunn and English teacher Laurie Navratil co-directed the drama and music. Sets were designed and constructed by Art teacher J. J. Newman and Tech. Teacher Timothy Pauldine. The dancing was the creative vision of English teacher Kelly Crisafulli and costumes were under the advisement of Home and Career's teacher Gail Van Dusen. go to page 2 |
