Lyons children invited to VBS

All children ages 3 through grade 6 are invited to join the fun at The Lyons Ecumenical Vacation Bible School.

VBS 2001 runs from Sunday, August 5 through Thursday, August 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. Parents should register their children at the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons (11 Queen Street).

The theme this year is 'Beach Trek' and the children will learn about Jesus' baptism in the River Jordan, his calming of the stormy sea, his lakeside telling of the parable of the sower and his post-resurrection breakfast with the disciples on the beach.

Each night, children will have a Bible lesson, make crafts, play games and sing songs, so children should dress casually and comfortably. The VBS activities will be at the both the Presbyterian and Methodist churches.

VBS 2001 is sponsored by the Inter-Church Council of Lyons and the teachers and aides for the program are from the various churches in Lyons. VBS is free to children but donations from parents and local businesses are welcome. Additionally, children will be asked to contribute pennies to a mission project: Habitat for Humanity.

On Thursday night, the community is invited to a short closing program which will be held at 7:30 at the United Methodist Church on the corner of William and Broad. The children will present songs that they learned in VBS and the program will be followed by a reception.
