 Army Pvt. Joette E. Maynard has graduated from the signal intelligence noncommunications interceptor course at Fort Devens, in Massachusetts. She received instruction in basic electronic principles, operation and maintenance of noncommunications intercept equipment, and intercept operations.

Maynard, a 2000 Marion grad, is the daughter of Debi Sue and David Maynard of Farnsworth Road.

Kim Stock and Erin and Elyse Bushart presented Ministry of Music selections at the Second Reformed Church morning worship service on August 5.

Howard Bushart is residing at the Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus.

Clarence and Gwen Bushart and Sherwood and Cleall Johnson have returned from a 16-day cruise and tour in Alaska. They traveled 4100 miles from the beginning of their vacation in Seattle.

Jacob and Heather (Halstead) DeLyser were married in the United Church sanctuary on August 4.

Remember ... the August 19 Auto Show at the Town Park. Plan to get your Strawberry Shortcake at the United Church's booth on the grounds.

Now that the gardens are producing, you may like to try a favorite - 'Uncooked Relish.' Two large cucumbers - unpeeled but take out seeds, two green peppers, two red peppers, 12 medium onions and eight medium carrots. Put through food chopper. Add 1/2 cup salt. Let stand two hours. Rinse well. Dissolve five cups sugar in three cups white vinegar, two T. mustard seed, 1 T. celery seed. Note: I bring vinegar and spice mixture to a boil and pour over vegetables before canning. August 12, 1911: Work has begun on the foundation of the Presbyterian Church. The building committee has changed their plans due to expense and will build of cement blocks instead of brick as previously planned.

Wayne County Fair runs August 13-18 at the fairgrounds in Palmyra. Stop by the Marion Senior Class Booth for hots, burgers, sausages and homemade pies.

How times have changed! I remember taking a yellow pencil and a Miller tablet for the first day of school. You should see the 'sixth grade supply list' this year! You would not believe how much all of that will cost. Click here to see the list.

Stan and Isabelle Bushart have returned from a tour leaders appreciation trip to Boston, Providence and Newport. Their tour included some of the beautiful mansions in Newport, the USS Constitution, and the Boston Tea Party re-enactment and an evening dinner cruise in Boston Harbor. They attended educational seminars and had a free evening to enjoy with Tom and Martha Spittal, formerly of Marion and now living near Providence.

Gary and Barb Wilson held an open house on July 28 for family, friends, and neighbors in celebration of Josh's graduation from Marion High School.
