Could it have been any hotter?! I think the worst is over now. It's tough to keep the flowers alive.

Norm and Dorothy Harris will be coming up from Florida to visit for a couple of weeks this month. They will be visiting relatives who live in Ontario. Norm said Florida has gotten a lot of rain and the grass is very green. (Wait until they get here where much of our is not.) Have fun you two.

shore picture Saturday is the Farmer's Market at Sodus Point Willow Park. It will be open from 9 to 5. Then, don't forget the outdoor concert at Sodus Point on Sunday at 3 p.m. You can hear the sounds of Barbershop music with the Chorus of the Genesee. (Look for Al Dobbin.)

Happy Birthday to Doug Clark on August 10.

Next Saturday, August l8, the School House Country Store will have its l5th anniversary celebration in Sodus. (It's at the corner of Lake and Maxwell Roads - just a minute or two from the Point. The Sunday outdoor concert at the Point will be the Rochester Scottish Pipe Band.

cute dog A reminder: 'Horsing' Around with Heluva Good - The Heluva Good Country Store will be the host for the High Falls Brewing Company's traveling horse 'Ontario' on August 21 and 22. Look for local wineries from 1 to 5 on August 22. There will also be area growers; the Heluva Good sponsored NASCAR vehicle, along with Dr. F. Kaempffe's three Heluva Good vehicles.

Speaking of which, Mike Emhof of Sodus is doing well this year in the Central NY Mini Sprint tour. His Pace Electronics/Heluva Good racer garnered a third-place finish on August 4 at Woodhull. They'll be racing in Canandaigua on Sunday (Aug. 11). To learn more, visit the team website at www.speedwayad.com/Branich

The column will be on vacation next week. (Donna, where are we going again?) I'll be back and look forward to hearing from you. Please write to me at

skull & bonesEditor's Note: Melissa and I will indeed be on vacation next week. But I always insist that she keep our destination secret. It's going to be tough to top last year's high adventure, but I think I can do it. Think Pirate Ships...
