Save Our Sodus meeting planned

SOS (Save Our Sodus), Inc. will hold a public meeting Saturday, August 18 at 8:30 a.m. at the Sodus Point Community Center.

SOS (Save Our Sodus), Inc. is an organization concerned with deteriorating water quality in Sodus Bay. Members include local residents, vacationers, property owners, businesses, boaters, sportspeople and many others who recognize the importance of preserving the bay's natural beauty and purity.

All citizens interested in improving, protecting and preserving water quality for themselves and their children are invited to attend the public meeting and are encouraged to become members.

SOS, now over two years old, has recently been re-organized as a not-for-profit corporation in New York and is working cooperatively with official agencies, other citizen groups, and anyone else seriously interested in improving water quality in the Sodus Bay Watershed. One does not have to own waterfront property to be interested. Everyone is in some watershed and thousands of boaters also enjoy the beauty and serenity of Sodus Bay.

The SOS citizens group is a fast- growing organization, operating with several committees. More volunteers are welcome, as are new members.

Present Committees and their Chairpersons are:

  • Membership, Lorie Thomas;
  • Science, Chris Fayad;
  • Political Affairs, Gerry Palmer;
  • Fund Raising, Chuck Murzin; and
  • Long Range Planning, Ed Leroux.

A special dinner is planned for Sept. 8 at Sodsu Bay Heights Golf Club as a benefit for SOS. More information about that will be coming. In the meantime, questions about reservations can be directed to Al Fagan, 483.4647; Chuck Murzin, 483.0511; or Dave Williamson, 483.6865.

Membership questions and contributions can be directed to SOS (Save Our Sodus), Inc. PO Box 424, Alton, New York 14413.
