Now is the perfect time to gather your Queen Anne's Lace blooms for your jelly recipe. For eight jelly jars you will need 30 large Queen Anne's Lace flower heads, seven cups water, two packages Sure Jell and 7.5 cups sugar. Bring water to boil, remove from heat and add flowers and let steep at least 10 minutes to make a strong tea. Strain and measure six cups of tea. Add Jell and bring quickly to a fast boil, stirring constantly. Add sugar all at once. When mixture returns to hard boil, cook and stir for 1 minute longer. Remove from heat, skim and pour into jars. (I add a touch of yellow food coloring if mixture seems too light in color.)

In celebration of the August 10 birthday of John Martin of Arcadia, he and wife Shirley and John's family members spent Saturday afternoon cruising on the Erie Canal.
