Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

Well, Donna and I are now back from our vacation...(Did we have fun?) I was in the Wayne County area not long ago to visit and take some photos for the column. Since the men in our family had gone out of town, we girls decided to go home for the day. We, of course dropped off cookies at the usual spots. (Lill, you did get your cookies, didn't you?) Al Dobbin wasn't home (but even when we lived next door to him, he was never home... he is one busy guy).

Sodus Point was busy and memories of feeding the ducks came back all at once. I only wish we had more time and a loaf of bread.

Speaking of Sodus Point, don't forget The School House Country Store is having its 15th Anniversary this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

ducks There are still two more Sodus Point Lighthouse concerts to enjoy before summer's gone. This Sunday (Aug. 26) at 3 p.m., Banjo champion Tim Allan will be playing. If you haven't gone to one of the concerts, please go. You'll  enjoy being outside listening to good music and admiring the beautiful view.

We stopped in at the Williamson Library and found it tough not to take a bunch of new books off the shelf. Have you seen the book backpacks? They are nice and much easier to store. They are available for a two-week loan.

school The Sodus Town Chamber of Commerce dinner meeting will be Thursday, September the l3 at 6 p.m. at the Sodus Bay Heights Restaurant. To make reservations, please call Mary Jane Mumby at 483.4067 no later then Monday, Sept. l0. On the agenda for this meeting: Craft Festal Review, planning for the Christmas Train Ride and Decorating Contest.

I'm trying hard to keep the enthusiasm of gardening, but for some reason this time of year, the mind wanders to fall flowers, planning for  hayrides and cider. Of course, there is all the shopping for school supplies and clothes. (Well, Donna, wherever we went, I hope it was tropical. Can we go again in January or February? With all the snow and cold I'll need some warm beaches and palm trees. I've bookpacks already gone through fall and into winter!)

pumpkin If you have some fun decorating ideas, craft ideas to do with the kids, recipes or dates of events you'd like for me to add to the column, please let me know.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. Have a great week, and congratulations to everyone who participated in the Summer Reading Programs at the libraries.
