He and his wife Celia are the parents of Seth, 21, an accountant/bookkeeper working in Michigan, and Wrenn, 19, an engineering student at Western Michigan University. Crowder met his wife while they were students at John Wesley College in High Point, NC. After they married, the couple became more involved in the Reformed Church. After he graduated from Western Theological Seminary in 1993, he pastored at a church in Three Oaks, Michigan. He was involved in community groups and was elected to the school board. He advises other ministers to get involved in their communities. He says he is a 'country boy' at heart and his style is informal. He likes to follow sports teams, in particular the Ohio State Buckeyes in football and the University of North Carolina Tarheels in basketball. He and Celia are currently living on the East Palmyra -Port Gibson Road, enjoying the sights and sounds of the Widewaters of the Erie Canal.
