Newark Lions hear from parents of astronaut

Helen and Dave Melroy of Pittsford talked to Newark Lions Club members and guests last week.

They talked about the life and accomplishments of their talented daughter, Pam, each illustrating details and describing the fascinating activities of a space adventurer.

Their daughter is an astronaut, as well as a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. She has been promoted to the rank of Colonel. She served in the Air Force before being hired by NASA. Col. Melroy went on a mission last year as the pilot of Discovery space shuttle, and is planning a trip into space in August 2002.

Lions member Owen Hughes, who introduced the Melroys, planned their visit to Newark. He has long been involved with the designs on the fuselages of WWII planes. He is a good friend of the Melroy family.
