Habitat working around the county

Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County has selected Mary LePage and her family as the future homeowners of the Wolcott Habitat House.

The churches in the Wolcott area are sponsoring the house. They are raising the funds and will provide construction volunteers to build the house. Construction is planned for the spring.

Habitat is accepting applications for a home to be built in the village of Sodus on property donated by Kelly Allen. Those wishing an application can call the office at 986.9915. Habitat selects families based upon the need for decent housing, ability to pay the no-interest mortgage, and a willingness to partner with Habitat.

The selected family must work at least 400 hours building their home with Habitat volunteers. Construction of this home will begin in the summer of 2002. Churches are encouraged to take an active part in the construction of the house. Contact the Habitat Office to find out how you can be a part of making the dream of owning a home a reality for a hard-working, low-income family.

Habitat is building throughout the county. In Lyons, the Reome's home is nearly finished. The dedication of the home was yesterday.

In East Williamson, Habitat is building with the Blauvelt family, three Webster Churches and Pioneers a group of retirees from XEROX.

In Macedon, work has begun on the Renckert's house. Churches in the Palmyra-Macedon-Farmington Clergy Council are sponsoring the Macedon House.

Habitat builds simple, decent houses with selected families. It costs Habitat about $40,000 to build each house. Money to purchase materials is donated by churches, individuals, and businesses throughout the county. Families living in Habitat homes also help fund new construction by making their mortgage payments. Habitat recycles homeowner's payments back into building in the county. In this way, each homeowner pays for another home over the term of their loan.
