Newark seniors plan Operation Graduation The year is half over for the members of the Newark High School Class of 2001. It's time to plan for Operation Graduation, the drug-free lock-in that parents will organize and run for the enjoyment of the seniors. Operation Graduation has a long tradition of providing a safe, fun alternative for students. It is one big, safe party for all seniors. There will be an Op Grad 2001 organizational meeting on Monday, February 5 at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria, for any parents, students or friends who would like to help. Committees need to be created for: Fundraising, food, entertainment, senior gift packs, decorations, chaperones, door prizes, registration/contracts, publicity, memory lane collages, clean-up. Many hands will make the work easier for all. Please help to make graduation 2001 a memorable night for all. February 28: Caps and gowns will cost $20, payable in cash or by check (made out to Newark Central School). The company representative will be at the high school from 7:30 until 1 on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Students will be measured for caps and gowns and may order an extra tassel for $4. If you have a cap and gown from an older sibling or friend, you can use that rather than purchase a new one. May 30: There will be a reception for seniors at the Quality Inn (tentatively scheduled). Elementary, middle and high school teachers, and retired teachers will be invited. June 17: Baccalaureate, organized for seniors by local church leaders. Location has not yet been determined. Friday, June 8 will be Senior Day at the high school. This is traditionally a day reserved for seniors to picnic, play games and sign yearbooks after the morning assembly. Graduation is Friday, June 22 at 8 p.m., with Op Grad 2001 following from 11:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday. Gary Grant, Principal and Class Advisor Kathy Snow hope you will get involved in one or all of the events being planned.
