JANUARY 9, 1947: Fred Haskins was named chief of the Marion Fire Department and Anson I. Marshall, president.

January 12 - No School - Superintendent's Conference Day; January 15 - No School - Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday.

Congratulations to Roman and Kim (McClellan) on the birth of Roman IV on November 30. He weighed in at 6 lbs. and 12 oz. Proud grandparents are Joan and Waden McClellan, Roman and Donna Brozoski and great grandmother Mary.

Cyril Smith and son Tim are recovering from injuries suffered in an auto accident on Christmas Eve.

Congratulations to Dick and Irmgard Halstead on the occasion of their recent 50th Wedding Anniversary.

As in the past, the members of the United Church will assist the Wayne County Nursing Home in celebrating the residents' January birthdays and by serving refreshments at a party in their honor. The party will be held on Thursday, January 21 at 6:30 p.m. A list of residents and of small gifts they might enjoy is located on the bulletin board.

Trumpet player Kristin Ververs was in the All-County Band in Phoenix, NY and Jimmy Ververs was recently inducted into the National Honor Society at Hannibal High School. These students are the grandchildren of Pearl and Hank Ververs of the Marion Road.

Pearl and Hank Ververs entertained 24 relatives and friends on Christmas Day.

Fred Coisman is home recovering from recent surgery.
