Catholic Schools Week planned CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK begins at St. Michael School on Sunday, January 28 with mass in St. Michael's Church in Newark. The spiritual theme throughout the week will be one of the Catholic missions and giving. Monday-Friday... Religion classes in grades K-8 will concentrate on the Columbian Fathers Mission Education Program. Classes will weigh the money they bring in daily to help the missions. If they exceed 54 pounds (the age of their principal), they will have a 'free' dress down day in the near future. Monday, Jan. 29 Begin school week with prayer service in the gym. Tuesday, Jan. 30 In-School Roller Skating, Spirit Dress Down Day and Hat Day to 'help us think of the poor.' Wednesday, Jan. 31 Missionaries, or their representatives, will spend the day at the school educating the students about various Catholic missions at home and abroad. Crazy Sock Day 'to be thankful for the warmth of our feet on cold days.' Thursday, Feb. 1 Tie Day 'to tie ourselves in solidarity with the poor and needy.' OPEN HOUSE and ICE CREAM SOCIAL, 6:30-8 p.m. Private tours for new interested families. Each class will have an educational display in the gym, and community volunteer awards will be given at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2. 1 p.m. Mass with Father Gagnier and the blessing of throats. 2:15 p.m. 8th grade vs. faculty/staff volleyball game with SMS school cheerleaders performing. Saturday, Feb. 3 Family Roller Skating, 6-7 p.m. for grades K 2, 7-8:15 p.m. for grades 3-4, 8:30-10:30 for grades 5-8.
