Home School classes at museum

The topic for the February 8 and 9 Home School at the Wayne County Historical Society Museum classes will be Studying Cemeteries.

In these classes, designed for home-schooled children ages 5-13, students will see a slide presentation and learn how to 'read' a tombstone.

They will study the possible interpretations of some symbols found on tombstones and learn the meaning of some Latin terms that are often found on headstones. They will listen to some tombstone epitaphs, learn 'cemetery etiquette,' and be taught how to use a cemetery information organizer. Students will then design an appropriate tombstone for one of Wayne County's earliest residents.

The cost for the class is $2; pre-registration is required as class size is limited.

Call 946.4943, Tuesday-Friday, between 10 and noon and 12:30 to 4.
