 Upset at Newark GOP caucus
Howard, Bailey, Blandino and Chambers.

Last night, Village of Newark Republicans backed the recent endorsement of the Arcadia Republican Committee and voted to run trustee Peter Blandino for Mayor of Newark.

More than 150 attended the caucus at the Newark High School, with 129 Republicans voting. Current Mayor, Fred Pirelli, received 38 votes and Blandino garnered 91 votes to be on the Republican ticket March 20.

Blandino, a Stuerwald Avenue resident and Seneca Foods Co. manager, was willing to give up his Trustee seat on the village board to run for mayor.

Local Republicans also chose John Bailey, Jr. and David Howard to run for the two trustee vacancies. Bailey, Howard, and Village Justice V. Bruce Chambers went unchallenged at the caucus. Pictured are Howard, Bailey, Blandino and Chambers.

Arcadia Democrats will convene tomorrow night at Charter One Bank and are expected to give the nod to Jack Dubler for mayor, incumbent Norm VanDemortel and newcomer James Colacino for trustees, and Wendy D' Alfonso for village justice.
