Newark Democrats choose candidates

Twenty-five members of the Arcadia Democratic Party met at caucus last Thursday for the coming election.

Dubler, D'Alfonso, Vandemortel and Colacino

Representing the Democratic party are Jack Dubler for Mayor, James J. Colacino and Norm VanDemortel for Trustees, and  newcomer Wendy D'Alfonso for Justice.

Dubler, who heads the Arcadia Democrat Committee, ran for town supervisor against Dom Barucca in 1997, but lost that campaign. A retired Rochester City Police officer, Dubler now heads the circulation and distribution department at Ad Group in Newark.

Colacino is a retired Newark Police Officer, who has served as Acting Village Justice. Colacino is a former Newark Fire Chief.

VanDemortel, an incumbent trustee, is also a former Newark Fire Chief. A Xerox retiree, he has served on the Village Board since 1997. He seeks his second four-year term.

D'Alfonso has been a law clerk and law clerk intern to three judges and now works as an attorney, handling family law and domestic violence issues, at Victim Resource Center of the Finger Lakes.

Meanwhile, Newark Republicans gear up to campaign for their new Mayoral candidate - village trustee Pete Blandino. At last week's GOP caucus, the party gave Blandino the line rather than two-term Mayor Fred Pirelli.

The village election will be held March 20.
