


Sodus church marks 175th anniversary
St. John's Episcopal Church, 54 West Main St., Sodus is celebrating the 175th anniversary of the establishment of the church.
The church building, built in 1826, is the second oldest building in Sodus still used for its original purpose.
The public is invited to attend weekly services (held at 9:30) and special events.
At each special event, they will be celebrating a section of years of church history. Church members would welcome any historical information anyone may have on the history of this church.

February 8: pot luck dinner at 6:30 p.m., concert, displays, old recipes (1851-1876).

February 27: Shrove Tuesday, period dinner (1876-1901) 6:30 p.m.; dedication of old quilt, history and displays.

March 29: pot luck dinner 6:30 p.m., reading of 100th anniversary speech (1926); speech by local historian 1901-26).

April 26: pot luck dinner 6:30 p.m. (1926-51) foods, memorabilia, church history of this period.

May 13: church services at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mother's Day breakfast (1951-76) tour of historical church sites.

June 17: church services at 9:30, followed by Father's Day breakfast (1976-present); memorabilia of the church's last 25 years; adopt-a-cemetery stone.

September 15: parish dinner - details to be announced.

September 16: regular service 9:30; special 175th celebration ceremony.
