Chamber brings circus to Newark next week
By Donna Comella

Next Tuesday morning, the circus will roll into Newark. And the community is invited to the Firemen's Field to watch as the elephants begin to raise the tent at 9 a.m.

The Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the visit from the Kelly Miller Circus. There will be two July 17 shows - one at 4:30 and another at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available at Wegmans, Joey's Northside, Farrell's Service Station, and Doebler Realty. Tickets will also be available at the door.

When the Chamber's Board of Directors met Tuesday, there was no quorum present to conduct official business, but several items were discussed:

The Annual Dinner Meeting is held each October, and work must begin now to organize the event. The committee will begin this month to secure a guest speaker. The Board is also in search of someone to take the Chamber's presidency. Dave Doebler will be ending his second term, and First Vice President Diana Lagenor is unable to succeed him.

The 4th Annual Canal Cruise & Trek is underway and is expected to arrive in Newark on Friday, July 20. Doebler has a meeting scheduled with Mayor Peter Blandino to discuss plans to welcome the flotilla. Local businesses will be invited to come to the canal banks to greet the boaters, offer hospitality and suggestions for a pleasant stay.

The Chamber Board meets the second Tuesday of each month for a noon luncheon at Burnham's Canalside in the Quality Inn.
