Newark to welcome canal visitors

This Friday, those participating in the 4th Annual Canal Cruise & Trek will arrive in Newark.

The bicycle portion of the trek came through Newark last week. The boaters are to depart Seneca Falls Friday morning and proceed here. The cruise is scheduled to leave Newark Saturday, stopping in Macedon's Aqueduct Park for lunch, then travelling on to Fairport.

While docked in Newark, boaters will be greeted with hospitality by local officials, business people and community members at T. Spencer Knight Park.

The Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a 'Business After Hours' at the new visitor's center on Van Buren Street, beginning at 5 p.m. The Chamber will provide refreshments and offer suggestions as to how the boaters might more enjoy their visit to Newark.

Burnham's Canalside Restaurant will provide a catered meal at 7 p.m. for the boaters, as well as a continental breakfast the next morning.

If you're in the neighborhood, stop by the north bank of the Erie Canal Friday and be part of the welcome.
