Pultneyville Picnic planned
The picnic will be held under the gaze of Williamson's landmark, historic Gates Hall, marking its 175th year as a community meeting place. Built as the Union Church of Pultneyville in 1826, on land given to the community by Jacob Hallett, the building served a variety of religious, cultural, and social purposes over the years. It was significantly renovated in 1893 for use as a theatre and community center and was renamed Gates Hall. In 1967, the Hall was designated the second oldest little theatre in the United States by the Library of Congress. In 2000, it was listed on the State Register and National Register of Historic Places. The evening's program will consist of discussions of the past, present, and future of this community asset. Senior members of the community will be invited to share their memories of functions held in Gates Hall. Those attending should bring a dish to pass, their own table service, and lawn chairs. Appetizers, hot or cold entrees, rolls or bread, salads, vegetables, or desserts are all appreciated. Beverages will be provided. In the event of inclement weather, the picnic will be held indoors. Meetings of the Pultneyville Historical Society are open to the public.
