Historical Society has membership drive

August is Membership Month at the Wayne County Historical Society and Museum. As part of this year's annual support campaign, campaign chairperson Dr. Suzanne Prestwich and the Society's board of directors are placing an emphasis on attracting new members and urging current members to renew their membership for 2002.

The society's mission is to preserve and present the history of Wayne County. Its goal this year is to attract 100 new members. Dues are $20 for a family membership and $100 for sustaining or corporate memberships. Those who join now get membership for 2002 and receive the remainder of 2001 free.

The Society operates the Wayne County Museum, which is housed in the former Wayne County jail and attached sheriff's home.

Members receive reduced prices in the Society's gift shop and for special events; free admission to the Museum; a bi-monthly newsletter; and use of the reference library and archives.

Funds raised during the campaign will be used to support the operation of the Museum and the Society's many educational programs. For more information or a membership form, call the museum at 946.4943, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
