Happenings On a hot July 23rd evening, the orange and white stripe-shirted Marion team hosted the blue and white topped Honeoye team in the Finger Lakes Youth Soccer Team on home turf. All played well ending with a score of 3-0 for Marion, with Justin Devlin and Tim Moran guarding the net. 'A friend warms you by her presence, trusts you with her secrets and remembers you in her prayers.' Mary McCabe of Prescott, Arizona, accompanied by her children Anna and Travis, visited with her parents, Jim and Carrie White of North Main Street. The Devlins on Farnsworth Road, held an open house and pool party in honor of their daughter Jenny's high school graduation. Folks ate, mingled and dipped in the pool during the hot afternoon on July 21. Children attending summer camp this year from the United Church include: Marissa DeRoma, Christina Schutt, Heather Franke, who just returned from a week at Camp Vick; Samantha Corteville will be attending Camp Whitman; Jared Schutt and his friend, Michael Welch, will be attending a session at Camp Vick. Lay Readers at the United Church on Sunday, July 22 were Lloyd Van Haneghem and Leighton Wiant. July 22, 1944: The Red Cross Room will be closed this afternoon to enable the workers to go to Newark to donate blood. Gauze for surgical sponges has been received and yarn for sweaters. New York State Art Teacher Association Portfolio Awards went to Peter Adriaansen, Corey Camp, Melissa Cummings, Courtney Grayson, Caitlin Snyder and Morgan Webb. Marion High School Music Department held their Awards Night. Students in grades 7-12 were recognized. Medal and certificates were presented to students who participated in the solo festivals, all-county band and chorus, and area all-state festivals. Jenny Bovet was recognized for her selection and participation in the 2000 Conference All-State Band. Special awards were presented for the following: Jr. Band Director's Award: Melissa Boerman; Louis Armstrong Fleegel Spirit Award: Peter Stevens; Left Foot Award: Greg Barton; John Philip Sousa Award: Jenny Bovet; The National Choral Award: Peter Stevens.
