Missing Sodus

While the weather here has been more like fall, Eileen Hooper tells me the weather in Florida is nice and warm, with temperatures in the low 90's and high 80's. She and her family have been swimming everyday. (I've seen people angel statuary taking the covers off their pools, but so far, no Polar Swimmers.) If Ralph and Betty Everdyke see how warm it is in Florida, they might decide to head back down.

The Sodus Chamber of Commerce will meet Thursday, June 7 at Nick's Family Restaurant in Wallington, with dinner at 6 p.m. Please contact Mary Piekunka at 483.9223 or Mary Jane Mumby at 483.4067 no later than Tuesday, June 5. This meeting is important in that the final preparations for Festival activities. Volunteers will be needed for Friday evening, July 27, Saturday July 28 all day, and Sunday July 29 until clean up is finished. If you would like to help, but can not attend the meeting, please call Mary Cook at 483.4l93.

Karen Castle wrote to me to let me know what a great time her family had on their vacation in Florida. The Castles went to DisneyWorld, the space launch from Kennedy Space Center, Fort San Marcos in St. Augustine and Karen's cousin in Apopka. Sounds like you a fun, full week.

Helen Phillips is volunteering at the Lighthouse again this year. The schedule for the outdoor concerts is out and can be picked up at the lighthouse. Helen is working at the Visitor's Center (a good place for her... she's very helpful). tulips She went on vacation recently to visit her son and family in Mooresville, North Carolina, then went on to visit the Biltmore Estate in Ashville and many of the Race Car Driver Museums. (Helen's son is in the NASCAR business and she's informed me that Mooresville is the NASCAR capitol of the US.) Sounds like a great time!

Birthdays for this month are Ruth Malone on June 7 and her Aunt Ruth on the same day.

Are you taking the family to ALASA Farms this Saturday or Sunday? There'll be sheep shearing on Saturday. You can also enjoy sheep dog demonstrations, hayrides, carriage rides, crafts, antiques, demonstrations. Don't let the rain spoil your weekend.

The Kraft Shack will have a Candle Making class on Tuesday, June 5 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. You will learn how to make at least three different types of candles $25 includes all. Registration is required.

The year-end Sodus Central concert is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Field House. If you are a former student who wants to join in for The Battle Hymn of the Republic, rehearsal is at 6:30 p.m.

tulips Next Saturday, Sodus Point will have a Community-wide garage sale. The sales all start at 10 a.m. and all proceeds will go to buy play equipment for Willow Park.

If you have events, functions, birthdays or other information you'd like to share, please write to me at
