Hoffman Awards lunch at the Club

Beth Hoad and Margi BealeNewark Country Club was the site of the annual Hoffman Foundation Awards luncheon.

Leah Monachino (Williamson High) won second place and $2000 for her topic, The Pearsalls: Lives of Yesterday, Lessons for Today.

Paul Rubery of Palmyra introduced Gary Grant of the Hoffman Board of Trustees. Grant presented scholarship awards to three Wayne County High School seniors.

The first-place award of $4000 as well as the Mildred Taylor Prize of $200 went to Lorelei Canne of North Rose-Wolcott, whose essay topic was Memories of the Heart: The Story of the Fox Family.

Mildred Taylor served Wayne County in the State Assembly from 1946-60 and was active in Republican Party politics for 50 years. She died in 1981, leaving a bequest of $5000 to Wayne County, to be used to recognize people who make a contribution to the written historical record of Wayne County.

Palmyra-Macedon student Carlene Peterson's essay entitled Horace Eaton: The Man Behind The Ministry, earned third place and a $2000 scholarship.

Rubery introduced Hoffman Board member Nancy Bloomer, who presented a T. Spencer Knight Historical Awards to Margi Stuart Beale for her involvement and contributions to Arcadia and Sodus Bay History preservation and education. Beale is a former President of the Sodus Bay Historical Society and a board member of the Arcadia Historical Society.

Beth Brooks Hoad of Palmyra was awarded a T. Spencer Knight Historical award for her work to preserve history in Palmyra. Hoad is the Town of Palmyra Historian and a member of Historic Palmyra and the 'Save the Phelps Store' effort.
