June 18 assembly at Newark's Lincoln School
On Monday, children received awards, watched a video and second graders 'graduate' from Lincoln Primary School. Pictured here are recipients of the Gay Earling-Fancett Math Award: Landon Alvarado, Gregory Hughes, Emily Lyman and Alec Wysocki. Miss Earling began her career as a first-grade teacher in September 1965. She taught in the Newark Central School District for 31 years until she retired in 1996. Each student receives a $20.00 gift certificate and an engraved trophy cup.
Also pictured are the children who received citizenship awards. They are Landon Alvarado, Matthew DeCook, Shelby Fisher, Gregory Hughes, Emily Lyman, Leahlinn Goodman, Ashley Putman and Ian Ross. Gregory and Emily won the Shirley Petty Citizenship Awards. One boy and one girl are chosen from each second-grade classroom for demonstrating good citizenship which includes being kind and courteous, being honest and trustworthy and showing respect to fellow students, teachers and parents. They receive a certificate and trophy cup. Shirley Petty began teaching second grade at Lincoln School in 1964. She also taught third grade for awhile. A very compassionate and caring teacher, she taught school until her untimely death in 1987. Shirley Petty Citizenship Awards winners each receive a $100 Savings Bond and a trophy cup. The Lincoln School Awards Assembly will be shown on Channel 12 FLTV, on June 24 at 11:30 a.m. and July 14 at 4:30 p.m.
