The kids are finally on vacation and even though the teachers were nice wishing all of a us a happy summer, our work as parents has just begun. Now it's our turn to keep them busy from sun up until sunset, which can be a little intimidating. What plans do you have to keep the dreaded boredom from setting in? As adults, we'd all like to have the time to experience boredom. The Libraries have Summer Reading Programs that are fun and educational as well. Don't forget picnics at the park can be a great way to spend the day, too. Both Norton Park and B. Foreman Park have nice picnic areas and great play areas for the kids.

Commencement exercises will be held tomorrow morning for both Sodus and Williamson. (Hope the rain holds off.) Congratulations to all the graduates.

Carol Moysey received the Snider House Postcard that she won on an eBay auction from Sodus, New York, and she was wondering if anyone could give her some information about it. How old is the building and who are the Sniders? There was a gazebo off to the left side in front and she was wondering when that was taken down. Any information you could send along to her would be most welcome.

beautiful lake view Vacation Church Camp will begin June 25 and last through June 29. This year, the Camp is called Polar Expedition. It seems like yesterday I was helping Ruth Lennox with the Vacation Church Camp, I don't recall the theme that year, but we had a lot of fun. It was educational and the kids were busy having fun and learning. This year's Camp sounds like a great religious adventure and is being held at Camp DeMolay in Sodus Point. For more information, call Pastor Bill Mann at 483.97l8, Karen Hillyard 483.8494 or Mary Ann Riker at 483.6237.

Mark your calendars so you don't forget the Sodus Point Carnival Thursday, June 28 to Sunday, July l. (Don't forget to pick up a bag of cotton candy for later.) Plenty of fun for everyone - the parade, carnival rides and fireworks.

I hear that my old neighbor and friend Al Dobbin entertained with his daughter, Sue, at a recent Sodus Rotary meeting. Sorry I missed it. Let me know when you see Al out and about.

The Pultneyville Historical House opens for the season this Saturday. It will be open each Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. until September 2. When is Pultneyville Homecoming this year?

flowers in bloom Have you signed up for the Summer Reading Program at the Williamson Library? The Program begins on June 25 and will continue throughout the summer. On July 11 and 25, the young Mateys can rest their sea legs and listen to tales at the Pre-school Story time, which includes a puppet show given by Readers Inc. Our fearless leader on this great adventure, Robin, tells me it's a wonderful group. But even before the adventurous Story times, the kids will be working toward the goal of 4,500 hours of reading time to complete the nautical miles for this fabulous journey. The Summer Reading Programs are a lot of fun with great things to do and being part of a lot of great programs, such as the Exotic Animal presentation, Movie Madness, Reading is Magic with Jim Bush, and, when the ship drops anchor, a music adventure with Gary the Happy Pirate himself.

Don't forget, Sodus Point Beach Park opens Tuesday.

Have a great week and if you have events you'd like to add to the column, please write to me at

I'm looking forward to hearing from you. It's going to be a great summer!
