Annual Alloway Picnic set
Mary Long is Alloway princess. Mary will ride in an antique cart, pulled by her brothers in the Peppermint Days parade in Lyons on July 14. Two scholarships, of $50 each were presented to two high school seniors of the Alloway area at Lyons Central School graduation exercises last night. The scholarships are given each year in memory of William Hess, an area resident, who gave his life for his country in the Battle of the Bulge, December 1944. Historic Alloway is two miles south of Lyons on Route 14. It is site of a grist mill, a portion of which dates to 1794, and the only cobblestone octagonal blacksmith shop in the world. Family photographs will be made by Daniel Lagasse. For further information, call Amelia Engels at 315.946.9490 or Shelden King at 315.946.4408.
