lots of snow! Winter storm warnings continue

Although the current winter storm has not been the monster it had been predicted to be, area schools remain closed and road travel is difficult.

There was a break yesterday afternoon, long enough for local highway crews to remove some of the accumulation from Sunday night.

This morning, most residents awoke to yet another six inches of snow and a light snow continues to fall this morning. Forecasters predict another 6 to 10 will have accumulated by tonight when the nor'easter is expected to move out to sea. It is the high winds that may hamper travel this afternoon, causing drifting and white-out conditions.

Governor George Pataki has said that he will stay in touch with all county officials to determine if, and where, any state of emergency arises.
