Sodus Bay future is meeting topic

Several residents participated in a workshop meeting at the Huron Town Hall on March 3, to begin to develop a new vision for the future of Sodus Bay.

The inter-municipal workshop was sponsored by the Town of Sodus, Village of Sodus Point and the Town of Huron. It was funded by the NY Dept. of State, Coastal Management Program.

Professor Cheryl Doble, from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, brought four students with her to conduct the workshop. She is a member of the faculty of Landscape Architecture.

Participants were divided into two groups and worked to create ideas for the bay area. Later, volunteers were given cameras with instructions to take photographs of various locations and properties.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 7 and will be held at the Sodus Point Village Hall. A third meeting will be held to report on status of the work, which will go on through the summer.

A report to the community should be ready by August. This will serve as a preliminary plan for action and funding to make improvements in the Bay area.

All interested citizens are invited to attend and participate in these meetings.
