Happenings THANKS! from the Marion Class of 2001 to the Marion folks for the support of their chicken barbecue. With Elmer and Violet Overslaw visiting from Texas, classmates of the class of 1948 met at Canalside Inn, in Newark, for a luncheon and to catch up on events that have happened since the last time. All had a good time and plan to do it again when the opportunity arises. 'The experienced gardener knows anything that grows like a weed - is.' MAY 4, 1912: The steam tiller has begun work on our streets, with O.H. Westfall as engineer, and E.E. Luce, assistant. Mark your calendar: Roast Beef Supper at the American Legion Home on Friday, May 11; $6 for adults; reduced prices for Children and Senior Citizens. May 5 is the date of the Student Council Prom. The Marion Fire Department is holding a Chicken Barbecue on May 5. Walk For Life, sponsored by the Care Net Pregnancy Center of Wayne County, is Saturday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at the Main Street Park gazebo in Palmyra. Contact Cheri Hussey at 926.4152 with your pledge. May 14 - the United Church of Marion is holding a Chicken and Biscuit Dinner with homemade pies. Take-outs available. Servings are from 4:30-7. Adults $6.50, Senior Citizens $5.50, children 5-12 $3.00 and those under 5 years, free. CAMP SUNDAY was celebrated at the United Church on April 29. Camps available for the children and young people are Camp Whitman, Camp Vick and Pathfinder. Scholarship funds are available through the church school, the church and the Women's Guild. Gertrude Collier is a patient at the Newark Hospital. Barb Ruple is recovering following recent surgery. Howard and Svea Dahberg are very pleased to be back in Marion alter spending the winter months at their home in Vero Beach, Florida. The Girl Scouts and Community Volunteers delivered 122 Easter plants (hyacinths) to the Senior Citizens, shut-ins and to hospitals and nursing homes of Marion residents. The plants are purchased from the generous donations of Marion businesses, individual contributions and the Community Christmas Program. On May 20, 2-4 p.m., members of St. Anne's and St. Gregory's Churches will be canvassing homes within their parish boundaries to obtain data on parish members. The goal is to reach all parishioners, discover their needs and to determine how most effectively to serve them and enrich their faith in Christ Jesus. The Marion Masonic Lodge and Richards Chapter Order of the Eastern Star are sponsoring a Chicken BBQ on Saturday, May 12 at the Lodge on North Main Street, Marion. Serving begins at 3:30 until sold out. The prices are $6 and $3.50. Eastern Star will hold a PIE SALE during the barbecue. Come and get a homemade pie for Mother's Day! The girls track team ran well but lost to Lyons. Taking individual first places were Katie Pentland, Liz Boerman, Jessica Grass, and Holly Metcalfe. Girls softball team beat Williamson 12-2. Keri Schoonerman went 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI's to lead the host Knights. Jen Devlin went 3 for 4. Tennis: Marion won 3-2 over Lyons, highlighted by a third set tie-break win at second doubles by Jeremy Hall and Shane Miller. Also winning were singles players Cory Starks and Rob Wheeler. Season record is now 3 wins, 2 losses.
