Marion High names top two

Chantel L. Lawliss Chantel L. Lawliss, daughter of Lisa and Barry Lawliss, has been named valedictorian of the Marion High School Class of 2001.

She earned this distinction by accumulating an academic average of 97.103. In addition to completing her four years of high school with the top average in a class of 74 students, Chantel is an active school citizen.

She has participated in soccer, basketball, National Honor Society, the Spanish and French Exchange Program, the annual musical, model UN, student council, varsity club, and also works part-time. Chantel is undecided on where she will attend in the fall, but plans on majoring in political science. She has applied to Niagara University, University of Rochester, Gettysburg College, St. John Fisher College and Nazareth College.

Rachel J. Hutt The salutatorian, Rachel J. Hutt, daughter of Joyce and Cornelius Hutt, has an academic average of 95.545 over the past four years.

Rachel has been active in soccer, track, National Honor Society, the annual musical, marching band, show choir and was selected for the Geva Theatre Conservatory Summer Group.

She will attend Hope College in the fall majoring in theatre.
