Raptors will play baseball in Newark The Wayne County Raptors, formerly the Newark Raptors, are a New York Collegiate Baseball League Team. The students/players come from colleges across the United States to stay with housing providers right in Wayne County. The boys report to Colburn Park in Newark the first weekend in June and play baseball through July.
The Raptors offer programs for kids, the first of which is the Baseball Camp. The program provides two one-week training sessions for local boys and girls, operated and staffed by Raptors coaches and players. In the 'Field of Dreams' program, the Raptors host Little League teams from all over the county, giving each and every young player a chance to meet and talk with the players; recognition from the field announcer before the start of the game; and a discounted general admission ticket/concession voucher package. First-year manager Scott Jenkins, a Texas native, has completed his third year as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator and pitching coach at the University of Vermont. Jenkins has pitched professionally for four seasons for several minor league ball clubs. Housing providers play an important roll in the Wayne County Raptors baseball team. Housing providers offer a bed to sleep in, bathroom and kitchen use. The boys are required to pay a weekly rate, with food being extra. Without such lodging for players, this team would not be possible. If interested in more information about becoming a housing provider or if you have an extra bed (or two) call 946.9859. The Raptors also need community sponsors and financial support. If you would like to help, feel free to call 483.8850. General admission price is two dollars - a great entertainment buy. Visit Colburn Park, Route 31 East, Newark, and enjoy a Raptors ballgame.
