Newark school budget vote, election

BUDGET APPROVED - With approximately 1137 district residents going to the polls yesterday, a 2001-2002 budget totaling $34,775,736 was approved by voters, 757 to 380. In addition, a bus replacement proposition met with voters approval, 617 to 315. The approved budget, after state aid is finalized, shows a tentative tax rate increase of 5.80%.

ELECTION - A close vote decided who will make up the 2001-2002 Newark Board of Education. Incumbent Jeff Snow received the highest number of votes (651) , with newcomer Roberta Colacino the second highest (564) to join Nancy Rohlin, Russ Harris, David Honness and Louis Jasper on the board. Newcomer Jim Reid received 598 votes, and incumbent Barb Wheeler 564, lost her seat on the board.

Colacino lives on Woodlane with her husband Jim and their two children, Matthew and Mara. She is a Wayne Finger Lakes Special Education teacher currently assigned to Perkins School.
