Jemison to speak at Lyons Library

Saturday, June 2 at 11 a.m. at the Lyons Public Library, 'Mary Jemison' (portrayed by Gretchen Murray Sepik) will appear as the third performer in the library's FACES project.

Sepik is a well-known actress/storyteller who portrays many people, including Susan B. Anthony and Beatrix Potter. She is also the co-founder of the Flight of Fancy Experimental Theatre.

As Mary Jemison, dressed in buckskin and carrying a backpack basket, Sepik tells her life story and how she struggled to adapt to her new way of life after being abducted by the Shawnees. Mary Jemison talks of her choice to remain with her Indian family even after she was offered her freedom many years later.

This program is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
