Local State Parks open this weekend
Saturday, May 26 will mark the opening of swimming at Fair Haven Beach State Park, Cayuga Lake State Park and Buttermilk Falls State Park. Hours will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Cayuga Lake and Buttermilk Falls and from 11 to 6 at Fair Haven. Swimming will be open on weekends and holidays through Sunday, June 10 at Fair Haven Beach, through Sunday, June 17 at Cayuga Lake and Buttermilk Falls. Seven days a week Monday-Sunday swimming begins at Fair Haven Beach on Saturday, June 16 and at Buttermilk Falls and Cayuga Lake on Saturday, June 23. Finger Lakes State Parks offer swimming at 12 different locations each year. The remaining parks open swimming in mid-June. Daily swimming begins on Saturday, June 16 at Keuka Lake State Park, Stony Brook State Park, Taughannock Falls State Park and Watkins Glen State Park. Daily swimming begins on Saturday, June 23 at Fillmore Glen State Park, Robert H. Treman State Park, Sampson State Park, Seneca Lake State Park and Long Point State Park. Unique natural stream swim areas are found in four Finger Lakes State Parks: Stony Brook, Robert H. Treman, Buttermilk Falls and Fillmore Glen. Seven of the parks have lake swimming: Keuka Lake, Taughannock Falls, Fair Haven Beach, Seneca Lake, Long Point, Cayuga Lake and Sampson. One park, Watkins Glen, offers an Olympic-size swimming pool. At Seneca Lake State Park, a family 'sprayground' is under construction adjacent to the swimming beach. The handicapped-accessible water playground is expected to be completed in time for the July 4th holiday.
