Sodus students stage 'The Nit Wits'

The Sodus High School Drama Club will present for The Nit Wits on Friday and Saturday, November 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m.

The comedy is directed by long-time area comic standout, Mike Mulberry (numerous Gates Hall credits) and Marcia Cottrell, Sodus Arts-in-Education Coordinator.

Pre-sale tickets for the play can be ordered by calling 483.9734. Prices for pre-sale tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for seniors/students. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $7.

Proceeds from the Friday night performance will be donated to the newly-created Families of Freedom Scholarship fund. The proceeds go to the spouses and children of victims of the September 11 attacks. The fund is being organized with help from Bob Dole and Bill Clinton.

The comedy is staged in three acts of humor growing from the ill-conceived plans of two undergraduates, Steve (Ryan Fitzsimmons) and Tom (Ian McKinny-Wood). It seems that Tom has all but squandered his chances for a return to college due to lack of industry. His father lays down the law - no college unless you earn some money.

Suddenly challenged, Tom, with some help from his buddy Steve, decides to pose as a psychologist while Ton's parents (played by Michael Brown and Meaghan Cottrell) are away on a trip. For the next two days, Torn and Steve play host to the wackiest assortment of patients they could ever have imagined.

In a constant state of contusion and disbelief, Torn, Steve, their girlfriends (Tracy Wilson and Heidi Knapp) and the maid (Abby DeenClingan), play host while the 'patients' keep the audience in stitches. Patients are played by Alex Harvey, Rianna Mayou, Cara Davidson, Billy Mulberry, Rae Stanley, Maggie Cavallo, Jeff Wren and Ian Johnson.

The guards, played by Tiffany Crawford and Jessica Peer, are constantly at the ready to try and round the patients up.

Come early for the Rotary Club Pasta Dinner on Friday in the new high school cafeteria from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Pre-sale dinner tickets are available from Rotary Club members ($7.50 adults, $6 seniors and $3.50 for children 12 and under) or tickets may be purchased at the door.

Tours of the new renovations in the high school will also be available.

The Nit Wits is produced by special arrangement with Baker's Plays of Quincy, MA and support of the Sodus Patrons of the Performing Arts.
