'The picture of the BIG ROCK brought back happy memories to me. I was the teacher for two years in the old Purdy District, one room school. This school has been rebuilt into a home and is on the corner of Ridge Chapel and Gildersleeve Roads. 'Every Arbor Day, in April, we took our lunch and trudged up Gildersleeve Road to the East about a quarter mile. Then we cut through a lane by a home that stood at that time way back to the South, past the DuBoise farm, into the woods. Even though the children knew the way we sometimes had to hunt for the Big Ole Rock. 'I remember the Neels children, Gerald Love, Geraldine Birch, Nelson Ameele, Bernie Lee Mason and Julian Miller and Vincent and Lois Crane. We shared many good times together in that old school. 1931-1932.' (Ina Benton) There has been a renewal in the books about our area and written by Robert Burger who grew up on a farm in Marion. Titles are Siblings and The Ice Cream Girl. Call if you would like to borrow either or both. No school October 8 for Columbus Day. OCTOBER 7, 1937: Marion Central School Association has elected the following officers: James White-president, William White-Vice President and Geraldine McMullin, Secretary-Treasurer.
