fireman Fairville plans service and open house Sunday

In 1920, President Woodrow Wilson issued the first National Fire Prevention Day Proclamation. Since 1922, National Fire Prevention Week Has been Observed the Sunday through Saturday in Which October 9th falls. That date is recognized because October 9, 1871, was the day the disastrous Great Chicago Fire occurred.

To kick off Fire Prevention Week, the Fairville Volunteer Fire Department, is planning an Open House on Sunday, October 7 from 1-4 p.m.

They will be having a memorial service for the fallen firemen (FDNY) and other victims of the September 11 attacks. The service is scheduled at 1 p.m. at the Fairville Fire Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Some of the other features of the Open House will be the WHALE (We Have A Little Emergency) program sponsored by the Wayne County Chiefs Association. This is an identification and information package for child safety seats, used by rescue officials in the event of a motor vehicle accident that incapacitates the parents or other adult care-givers.

Also trained personnel in the Child's Safety Seat program will check your child's car seat to make sure that it is properly installed. They will also answer questions about car seats, and train you to use them correctly.

The Fairville Fire Dept. Explorer Post is planning a puppet show to teach kids of all ages some valuable fire safety tips. There will be free Fire Truck rides, coloring books, balloons, refreshments, door prizes and more.
