Brazilian student visiting Lyons

Juliana Cardoso de Matos The Lyons Rotary Club is sponsoring a foreign exchange student from Sao Paulo, Brazil through the Rotary International Exchange Program.

Juliana Cardoso de Matos arrived in Lyons in August 19 and is staying at the home of Alan and Darlene Whitcomb. She is a senior at Lyons High School and is taking a full schedule of classes including physics, chemistry, math and American history.

She attends the Rotary meetings every Wednesday and likes to see how the club works, especially when Club President (host mom Darlene Whitcomb) has to 'fine' a member for some reason.

Juliana has been on trips to Niagara Falls, Canada, a fall weekend trip for Rotary exchange students to Caledonia-Mumford, and a trip to Quebec City, Canada and there is a trip to NYC planned. She stays in contact with her family in Brazil through the computer and e-mail.

Mr. Carlos de Matos, her father, is an engineer and her mother works in sales. She has an older brother and a boyfriend and many, many friends she writes to regularly.

Juliana is looking forward to Halloween and dressing up in costume; also anticipating snow (first time) and Christmas and decorating the family Christmas tree.
