Children's Sabbath at Lyons church

This Sunday (Oct. 21), the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons will join with thousands of other congregations across the nation in the 10th annual National Observance of Children's Sabbaths. The theme of this year's observance is 'Write the Vision: Creating Communities of Shalom for All God's Children.'

The observance is sponsored by The Children's Defense Fund and is supported by the National Council of Churches and approximately 200 different denominations. The service will focus on the needs of children and how the community can respond to the needs of children through prayer, outreach and advocacy. The service will include special prayers, litanies, poems and dramatic readings.

Worship begins at 10 a.m. and the Rev. Cynthia Huling Hummel will preach. Her meditation is titled: 'Champions for Children.'

The choir , under the direction of Mrs. Camille Clark and accompanied by Mrs. Janet Buell will share special music for the occasion. A time of fellowship will follow the service. Everyone is invited.

There is child care for infants and toddlers and church school. Lyons Presbyterian is handicapped accessible and is located at the corner of Queen and Broad in Lyons.
