Wednesday was our first real taste of weather to come, I'm afraid. The wind made it so much colder than it needed to be. (One positive aspect of it, is that now when you let the dogs out, they come right back in.) Betty and Ralph Everdyke left at a perfect time. Sounds like they enjoyed the trip back South. They stayed in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on Tuesday night and arrived in Florida about 4:l5 Wednesday afternoon. Ralph says the weather has been mainly in the 80's. In Sodus School News, the Primary School was busy with their fun Fall Field trips. The First grade went to Long Acres Pumpkin Farm. The Kindergarten classes - students of Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs. Hendricks - went on their trip to the Apple Shed; and the Third Grade went on their trip to Beaver Lake. Next week is Red Ribbon Week at the school and the Pre-K will be going on their Field trip to Alasa Farms. The Humane Society of Wayne County will have a Pasta Dinner and White Elephant Sale this Saturday (Oct. 20), at the Palmyra Fire Hall. The sale begins at noon, with dinner served from 4 to 7. Dinner sounds good - it includes pasta with meat or meatless sauce, salad, bread and many desserts. The Humane Society assures us that no one will go away hungry or empty handed. The Sodus Point Community Association is holding its 2nd Annual Scarecrow Decorating Contest. Call 483.2657 for an entry form. You must submit the form by Wednesday, Oct. 24. Judging will be next Sunday, and will include categories for children 12 & under; adults & families; businesses; and organizations. Good luck to all. The Sodus Go Getters will meet next Thursday, October 25 for the noon dish-to-pass meal at the United Third Methodist Church. The program will be entertainment by Al Dobbin and his daughter, Sue Johnson. Also from Sodus... I heard that Lill Burkholder was surprised for her 80th birthday last Saturday at the Bridge Tavern in Lyons. Family, friends, neighbors and relatives from Pennsylvania were on hand to help her celebrate. Happy Birthday, Lill. (And thanks to Sue Ellen for letting me know.) Mark your calendars for next Saturday and Sunday, October 27 and 28. The Wayne County Antique Dealers' Association will hold it's fall Show and Sale at the Williamson High School. It starts at 10 a.m. each day. At the Kraft Shack, Sandy is having a Kids Halloween Class on Tuesday, October 23 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. the kids will enjoy making a centerpiece. $12 includes all. Please pre-register. The Sodus Library has a list of new Easy Reader books they purchased with the $500 Collection Development Grant from the Pioneer Library System. They are excited about their new books and think the beginning readers will be excited about them, too. Thanks to Sue Miller for sharing her dip recipe with me. (Now that it's football season, everybody has to hollow out a loaf of bread and pour dip into it, right?) If any of you want the recipe, just e-mail me and I'll share it with you.
I look forward to hearing from you. Enjoy your week. Settle down with some good books and warm things to drink.
