Another one of those weeks - you don't know what to expect - in the 70's one day and snow expected tonight. It was great the weather stayed nice for a bit longer so we could do some more last minute gardening. (I took the morning glory vines down and had green hands. Is that better then a green thumb?)

There will be a special Sodus Chamber of Commerce meeting on Thursday, November 1 at the WCTA Credit Union at 6:30 p.m. (Please come through the back door to the north.) Coffee and dessert will be served (no dinner). The cost will be $2 per person. Elections will be held for two Directors and Treasurer. Also at the meeting, members will be finalizing Christmas activities. Please call Mary Jane Mumby at 483.4067

The Chamber will be hosting an informational public meeting on health plans it has available on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Sodus Methodist Church (Main and Belden). tree A couple of new titles you can find at the Sodus Library purchased with the funding they received from the Collection Development Grant: Hamster Chase by Anastasia Suen; and Biscuit Wants to Play by Alyssa Capucilli. The library is excited about their new collection of Easy Reader books and hope you come in to take a few out.

This week was Red Ribbon Week and it will continue through part of next week at the Sodus Primary School. Mrs. Witt's class will be having a Harvest Celebration from l to 2 p.m. on October the 31. Today, the Pre-K had planned a field trip to Alasa Farms.

While I'm thinking about it, don't forget to turn the clocks in your house back one hour this weekend, or Eastern Standard Time will begin without you.

At the Kraft Shack Monday, October 29, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., you can take a class learning to make a Moose sign and Teddy Bear mail. These are two cute holiday decorations. $38 includes all and please remember to pre-register.

Don't forget the Antique Show and Sale at the Williamson High School on Saturday and Sunday It starts at 10 a.m. each day.

Also on Saturday, there will be a chicken BBQ at the Williamson Reformed Church from 3-6 p.m.

The Alton Fire Dept. will be having a Halloween Party on Saturday nigh for kids 12 and under. The party will begin at 6:30 and end at 7:30 p.m.

Ralph and Betty have been enjoying themselves. Last Saturday, they took a drive with the Ronald Van Camps, who are also from Newark and live in the same condo complex as Betty and Ralph. They went to the Lakeridge Winery just North of Clermont. On the way back, they stopped to have dinner at the Red Lobster in Port Richey and their waitress had a unusual and beautiful name - it was Melissa. (It's grown on me.) They enjoyed themselves and said she was amusing. (Ralph also mentioned the column and that she should take a peek to see if her name is in it this week.)

They took the Van Camps to see the Veterans Cemetery off Rt. 75. Ralph said it looks like the Arlington Cemetery in Virginia, but a smaller scale. Ralph says there are eight wineries in Florida. The Winery in St. Petersburg has a motto: There's not a grape in the bunch. (They make their wines from citrus juice and berries... sounds interesting.) Thanks Ralph for keeping us up to date.

cat & pumpkins Did anyone happen to see the morning news on channel 8 Wednesday morning? If you did, you may have seen three familiar faces. Sandy Hopkins from the Kraft Shack was visiting with two friends - Alyssa Lennox and Sarah. Melissa Long tried on many of the hats Sandy had brought along for the program. The theme was Patriotic Costumes for Halloween. Alyssa wore a flag pin she had made, as well as a poodle skirt she and her Grandmother had made together. Sarah wore a tall Uncle Sam type of hat and outfit she had made. The outfits were cute and the girls did a great job modeling them.

The Genesee Valley Boxer Rescue is looking for foster Homes for temporary shelter for the dogs waiting to be adopted. The group is looking also for anyone who would be interested in organizing a fundraiser. For details, call GVBR at 716.748.9056.

Thanks to everyone who has sent along information. I appreciate hearing from you. Soon, Al Dobbin should be online and we'll be able to keep track of him, as well.

Halloween is just around the corner. Have a safe and Happy one.
